I stopped using mail.app and use the gmail web interface…and I don’t leave a browser open for it. I go to it when I need or have a moment to check my mail. Leaving a mail client open is the equivalent of a douce-bag wearing a blinking bluetooth headset 24/7. If you were actually that important someone would be checking your email for you.

I set my home page to about:blank that way when I open my browser I don’t get distracted and go to a page I didn’t intend to visit.
